Photographing Large Items

Photographing Large Items, Our Tips for Large Antiques

We have gathered some resources to help you in photographing larger items. Online marketplaces make it possible for interested buyers to shop from any digital device. Sharp, appealing images are crucial in attracting the eye of a potential buyer and in closing the sale. You may offer many exceptional pieces, but if your images are low quality, a potential buyer may be unwilling to commit.

First Impressions Matter

An interested buyer is scanning rapidly, searching for specific pieces of interest, and quality images are key. Pictures are more effective than even the most thoughtful, accurate titles or descriptions. You should include photographs of the piece on a white background, taken from every angle, as well as close-ups to highlight the details and interesting vignettes.

Does this mean you have to hire a professional photographer? Not necessarily. Hiring a professional photographer is an option, but we’ve got some tips on how to take excellent photos yourself, with a camera or a smartphone. You need just a few pieces of equipment, a space to set up and a few minutes to learn!

How Many Images Do You Need?

Every piece needs a minimum of four shots (front, back, left, and right sides), but more images are recommended. Most online marketplaces allow between 10 and 20 photos. Take close-ups of the design details and any blemishes on the piece. When you are open about every aspect of what you are selling, you increase sales and reduce potential returns.

Antique buyers typically expect a piece to have some wear and tear, so don’t hide it. When they take delivery, the piece will be as expected.
